News 11/14/2003:

I am just about ready to unleash my articles on wireless networking here in Tallahassee. Why "unleashed"? Because 90% of the networks "scanned" in Tallahassee are wide open. What does that mean? That means that ANYONE can access your internal network. How do you protect your network you ask? On your access point, turn on WEP and use MAC address filtering! The articles will go more in depth how to accomplish this task. In addition to the articles, I'll have maps displaying the various networks indicating if they are secured or unsecured. Click on the Wireless Wi-Fi on the menu.

I've added Monitoring Tips for using Scan Lists. I've been getting lots of E-Mail and phone calls ever since the article about the Leon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) appeared in the Tallahassee Democrat (page 3a) on January 15, 2000 by our very own Tony Bridges, police reporter extraordinaire!

The Leon County Sheriff's Department is now joining the City of Tallahassee radio system. Tallahassee has a countywide system due to providing Fire Services to areas outside of the city limits. Thus..... county folks can join in the system at a fraction of the cost! By clicking on the LCSO button on the left, you can see the preliminary channel lineup for the Motorola MTS2000 portable radios.

Frequencies! Can you believe that I constructed this site without putting the 800 frequencies on it????  Well I did! Until I change the buttons on the left (they take too long to load), click here to see the frequencies that you need to program in your Trunk Tracking scanner.

For about 20 years now, I have maintained the "Tallahassee Frequency Guide" that I have given out to the local  Radio Shack stores to help new folks know what to listen to in the Tallahassee area. For the last several years, I' ve put these lists on my home page but I finally decided to find a permanent home for them here.

Tallahassee-Scanner.Com is the new home for the list as well as other scanning information for the Tallahassee, Florida area.

The Table of Contents on the left will have all the links to the various parts of this site

Information that I am working on includes:

  • Description of the new City of Tallahassee Trunking System
  • Trunking templates for each department
  • Updated Tallahassee Frequency Guide to reflect recent changes
  • Tallahassee database that you can run on your own computer
