Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for Tallahassee Florida is run by Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH). Although run by a private entity, EMS is provided for the citizens of Tallahassee Florida, Leon County tax free. No taxes are paid to support the service unlike many other counties in the State of Florida. TMH is also a secondary answering point for 911. When you dial 911 and are in the City of Tallahassee, your call is first answered by the Tallahassee Police Department. If the call is medical related, you are then switched through the 911 system to TMH which then answers the secondary 911 console. If you are in the county outside of city limits, the Leon County Sheriff's Department will answer the call and switch to TMH if medical related.

In addition to the local service, Life Flight responds to local emergencies as well as out to a radius of 90 miles and on occasion to other locations such as Emory Hospital in Atlanta GA and Pensacola Florida. Most of the daily flights involve the surrounding counties of Jefferson, Wakulla, Gadsden, Madison, Taylor, Calhoun, Liberty and the Georgia counties of Thomas, Grady and Seminole.
