Where am I?
One of the fun things about Amateur
Radio is that you get to play with neat stuff! Besides talking on the radio
to other hams, there are alot of other activities that you can participate in
such as Amateur Television, packet radio using your computer, radio modem
(Terminal Node Controller) and a VHF radio. One of my passions of
ham radio is that I have merged my computer interest with my radio hobby and run
a packet radio system in the car along with a Garmin GPS. This system is called
Automatic Position Reporting System developed by Bob Brunninga and is used by
amateurs worldwide. The position of my car is constantly being transmitted via
packet radio at a set interval and is monitored by an Internet Gateway station (IGate)
in Tallahassee that feeds the radio traffic over the Internet to a server
in Miami Florida. This server receives hundreds of streams of data from IGates
from all over the country (and the world) so that you can follow any ham
operator via web based mapping. My amateur radio callsign is
KD4MOJ. To see where I am, click
here. Another window will popup with a map and you will see my callsign,
KD4MOJ, at the location that I was last heard at. If the "last heard"
timestamp is over 8 hours, either I'm asleep (have to get winks whenever I can
being in public service!) or away from my car. Sometimes I have my portable
radio (Kenwood D7a) so I can be tracked on foot. The callsign of my portable is
KD4MOJ-2 and that will show up on the map under "Other stations close
by". If you think this is interesting. drop by my amateur
radio homepage www.kd4moj.org
or drop me a note!
